I think it's really interesting to see that the Poirot novel "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" was published in 1940 and in it Chief Inspector Japp appears. In fact, in that book he and Poirot discuss one of the cases in the short story collection "The Labours of Hercules". (Also, Poirot reminisces about the countess Vera Rosakoff, who also appears in "Labours").
Note that "The Labours of Hercules" was published in 1947, but the copyright in the book shows the EARLIEST year as 1939. Curious, isn't it? Apparently the short stories in "Labours" were also published in magazine format. So, it looks like the last appearance of James Japp was indeed "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe". Looks like I will have to fix my timeline that I included on this website! |
