Is it true that he's doing a remake of Death on the Nile? I thought the Agatha Christie Estate weren't allowing further dramatisations of it. It would have been nice to see Gwyneth Paltrow play Linnet. I suppose it was the pregnancy that prevented it. It seemed hasty (an awful) recasting in the new Suchet version.

I think I did read somewhere that Molina's coming back as Poirot for "Nile". About the AC Estate saying "no" to more dramatisations of it, I don't know.
Mathew Prichard, grandson of AC and chairman of Agatha Christie Ltd., was quoted saying that the 2001 "Orient Express" TV movie w/ Molina was intended to introduce more people in the new century to the Poirot books.
I don't think there should be another one w/ Molina. I like his acting abilities, but as Poirot? A lot of the problem w/ his portrayal in "Express" had to do with the script and direction. James, did you read my own opinions of the TV movie on this website? I didn't exactly like the newer adaptation.
It would be nice to see an actress like Gwyneth Paltrow in "Poirot". People on the web have been saying that the casting for the new Suchet episodes have been better. I can't venture an opinion on that, since I haven't seen a single new story yet! Still haven't been shown in the U.S.! Anybody, what is your opinion of the Alfred Molina-starred "Orient Express"? _________________ James

I just saw who Alfred Molina is in IMDB.. and I've never seen the movie before..
The only Poirot I've seen is David Suchet and to be honest, I don't like him as Poirot.. Probably maybe because I love Poirot so much and I got all these imaginations about how he looks and David Suchet (his mustache is too small) is not even close.. but I like his potrait on the cover of 'Curtain'.
Anyway, back to the topic.. I dunno about Alfred Molina.. Does he even have a egg shape head? |

Sensuous, Molina doesn't have an egg-shaped head. Oh, and another thing: he's really tall for Poirot! (I've seen a bunch of Molina's movies, and he is a good actor.)
I like Suchet, but ... I would've made some changes. It's interesting how we as readers picture certain characters in our minds, only to be disappointed when those characters are brought to the screen. (For example, I know a few people who are disappointed and are very critical of the way Emma Thompson's character Trelawney is portrayed in "Prisoner of Azkaban".)
For me personally, I would like to have Suchet's Poirot to have a bigger mustache and to have more hair on the top. (In a few instances in the books, Christie alludes to the fact that indeed he has hair on the top of his head.) Suchet's Poirot is short and that's great, and I like his Belgian accent. Oh well, nobody's perfect.
Sensuous, did you see Albert Finney as Poirot in the movie adaptation of "Orient Express"? He does a fantastic portrayal! |
