Japp

Inspector James Japp has known Hercule Poirot since 1904, when Poirot was still a member of the Belgian police.  Back then, Japp and Poirot worked together in the Abercrombie forgery case and the Baron Altara case, although these cases were only alluded to and not recorded. James Japp is described as a 'little, sharp, dark, ferret-faced man.'

Although their methods are quite different, Japp and Poirot always shared respect for each other professionally. Japp always tended to jump to conclusions and accepted any clue too readily. Once, Japp wagered a bet to Poirot that he couldn't solve a crime while staying at home. The Scotland Yard detective lost.
